Tales of my life as told by me.

  • Husband and Wife Club Championship 2013

    handwclubchamps2013
Lindsey and I defended our Husband and Wife Club Championship title for the third year running (2011, 2012, and 2013). The format was six holes of scramble, six holes of modified alternate shot, and six holes of one best-ball of two. Our winning score was 65. Lindsey putted like a champ, and I drove the ball well. It was a beautiful, sunny, 75 degree day, and there was a good turnout of 22 couples.

Thanks to Peg and Dan for watching Harvey for about seven hours!

  • Old Settlers Picnic 2013

    Harvey’s 1st. My 4th. Lindsey’s 27th!

  • Traverse City Film Festival

Lindsey and I went to only two movies during the Traverse City Film Festival this year. The first was Bypass, which is a Spanish romantic comedy drama. In short, a young man becomes embroiled in a difficult emotional dilemma between his pregnant girlfriend and his childhood friend with a heart condition. He pretends to Love the friend as a means of comforting her in her last days. The problem arises when she miraculously recovers and he is forced to juggle the two women.

The second was Mistaken for Strangers, in which the younger brother of the National’s front man follows him on tour. It was a funny and touching story about two different artistic brothers getting to know each other later in life.

I’ve learned to very carefully select movies at film festivals. If you don’t, it can be quite disappointing. We did well this year, and I’m looking forward to next year.

  • Trip to See Baby Trygg

We zipped up to see cousin Jenni and Zach’s new baby, Trygg, who is about eight days old. We stayed with cousin Tim and Olivia and their nearly two year old daughter, Fiona. We didn’t do too much, but hit up some of our favorite spots – Getz’s clothing store, Donkers ice cream shop, Huron Mountain Bread Co for donuts, and Hardee’s for a hot ham ‘n cheese sandwich!

Trygg was adorable and the brand new parents were doing great. We had fun at their shower, and even got to ride the Rhino.

  • Time for a New Used Car

We found an Explorer that hopefully won’t slide down the driveway this coming winter like the old one. I look forward to getting about ten years outta this fine looking automobile.

  • Harvey’s Baptism

Harvey Baptism July 2013On July 14, 2013, Harvey was baptized on a hot and sunny morning during church in the park by Pastor Chris Lane of the Central United Methodist Church of Traverse City. The following family and friends were in attendance: Grandma and Grandpa Rogers; Grandma and Grandpa Jonkhoff; Aunt Katy; Aunt Christy; Great Grandma Rogers; Great Grandma and Grandpa Lanham; Great Uncles and Aunts Jon and Barb Palomaki, Tom and Pam Lanham, and Doug and Kathy Gauthier; Cousin Zach; Eleanor King; Nadene Meyers; Lois McManus; and Joni Sternburg.

After the church ceremony, we all retreated to the Double Dogleg for brunch and then took turns touring East Bay on a pontoon boat. It was a perfect day filled with family, good food, and the celebration of Harvey’s baptism.

  • Cherry Festival 2013

This is a year a year of many firsts for Harvey, and one of the most fun was walking in the Cherry Festival parade. It was hot, but we made from the start to my office before we all pooped out and caught some much needed AC.
